What you need to do:

-

Cut the egg carton up into individual circles. Trim the bottoms so they lie evenly.

Paint the egg cartons all over to make the turtle shell. Let them dry before going on to the next step.

Cut the green paper into flipper shapes. Glue the flippers inside the shell and fold out so they lie flat. Glue on the pompoms to make the heads and add the googly eyes.

You can also decorate the shells using items such as buttons, sequins, jewel gems, stickers, or similar.

Alternatively, you could draw on designs. THE GELATI Monastery and Academy is one of Georgia’s most treasured religious and cultural landmarks. King David IV began constructing the monastery in 1106 as a tribute to his victory over the Turks.

Known for its wonderful mosaics and frescoes, the monastery is a masterpiece of the Golden Age (between the 11th and 13th centuries) of medieval Georgia, a period of political strength and economic growth.

Located in the Imereti region of western Georgia, the monastic complex has facades of smoothly hewn large blocks, balanced proportions and blind arches for exterior decoration.

One of the largest medieval Orthodox monasteries, it was also a centre of science and education and the academy it housed was one of the first institutions of higher education founded in the Middle Ages, and became a principal cultural center in Georgia.

The academy had employed some of the most well-known Georgian scientists, theologians and philosophers. Among the religious authors were celebrated scholars as Ioane Petritsi and Arsen Ikaltoeli.

Due to the extensive work carried out by the Gelati Academy, people of the time called it , ‘a new Hellas’ and ‘a second Athos’.

The Monastery has a number of murals and manuscripts dating back between 12th and 17th centuries.

The Khakhuli triptych was enshrined at Gelati before it was stolen in 1859. Gelati is also the burial site of its founder and one of the greatest Georgian kings, David IV. Near King David’s grave are the gates of Ganja, which were taken as a trophy by King Demetrius I of Georgia in 1138.

The monastery complex was included on Unesco’s heritage list in 1994.
