Harika bounces back after draws
After three consecutive draws, Indian GM Harika Dronavalli bounced back with a win over CM Suleymanli Aydin of Azerbaijan in the seventh round of the Master’s tournament of the Abu Dhabi International Chess Festival here. After seven rounds in the nine-round Swiss tournament, Harika has amassed a total of four and a half points, courtesy three wins, three draws and just one loss.
One of the six venues for the event, JNS will host preliminary round matches of Group H that include hosts India, Ghana, Colombia and United States of America. India will be allowed to practice at the warm-up ground. The Local Organising Committee (LOC) and the All India Football Federation (AIFF) will take a call on that, said a SAI official.
Bengaluru Buddies came from behind to beat Chennai Strikers in the Indian Cue Masters League here on Monday.
The Strikers were sitting pretty at 2-1, after Bangalorebased Vidya Pillai notched up two points for her team, pairing up first with Pankaj Advani to win the mixed doubles snooker match and then with Pandurangaiah from Nellore to win the mixed double pool match as well.
But in a dramatic icon Match, Darren Morgan (Wales) stunned Advani literally with just a few seconds to go to make it 2-all. In the decider, the snooker singles shootout, Laxman Rawat cruised to a 42-0 victory against Dharmender Lilly (Punjab) to clinch the tie for the Buddies.
