A Class IV student of Central School in east Delhi’s Vigyan Vihar died under mysterious circumstances while leaving the school premises on Monday evening.

This is the second such death reported from a school in a week.

Nupur Prasad, DCP (Shahdara), said nine-year-old Reyaz Sheikh had just finished his classes in the evening shift and was walking down the stairs with other students when he suddenly collapsed.

The boy was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead.

“There were no external injuries on the boy’s body, but we will await the autopsy report to know what killed him,” said the officer.

His parents were informed immediately after the incident and they rushed to the hospital only to find their son dead.

Prasad said that the police’s probe so far has not pointed to any foul play.

No complaint about quarrel with other children or beating by teacher has been received, the officer added.

An inquiry has been initiated in the case.

Sheikh lived with his parents in east Delhi’s Madhu Vihar. His father is a mechanic in the neighbourhood, the officer said.

This is the second such death in a Central School in the national capital.

On August 17, a 17-year-old boy collapsed and died during school assembly at KV-Gole Market. Police had ruled out foul play in that case too.
