Confusion prevailed in Gurgaon regarding the status of schools, colleges and offices for Monday even as the district administration announced that everything was normal and all educational institutions and offices will remain open.

Many private schools in Gurgaon, however, declared a day off -- some for classes up to Class 5 -- on Monday.

There was lack of clarity because the state government announced in Chandigarh that all educational institutions in Haryana will remain closed on Monday, suspecting unrest due to the announcement of the quantum of sentence against Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh.

Deputy commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh however said, “The administration has issued no direction to keep schools and colleges closed on Monday. If private schools are closed that might be their own decisions. We have not issued any direction of closure at all. In fact colleges will open on Monday.”

Some schools, however, sent messages to parents to not send the wards.

“Dear staff, as a precaution for the safety of our dear students, the school will be closed for students on Monday the 28th of August. It is working for staff as usual, however,” said Sudha Goyal, principal Scottish High International School.

Corporate employees and workers were unsure about work and were monitoring the situation to take a call.

After violence erupted in parts of Haryana and Delhi, many firms suspended work on Friday and allowed employees to work from home on Saturday.

“We are hopeful the worst of the violence has passed,” Manas Fuloria, CEO of Nagarro said.
