NDMC to organise state-level Divyang meet in October

New Delhi Municipal Council has decided to start a state-level championsh­ip for Divyang athletes, which would be first of its kind in the Capital.

NDMC chairperso­n Naresh Kumar, on the occasion of National Sports Day, on Tuesday said with the aim to promote physical and sports activities among divyang students of Delhi, the NDMC would organise the meet from October 11-13 this year at Talkatora stadium and ground in New Delhi.

The NDMC has invited the entries of the participan­ts of Divyang (visually impaired and orthopedic­ally handicappe­d) students in the age group of 11-14 years under junior category and 15-18 years under senior category from the schools under Delhi government, all three municipal corporatio­ns of Delhi, Delhi Cantonment Board, the council and aided schools as well, he said.

Events, for both male and female, will include 50 meters, 100 meters, 4x100 meter relay race (subject to availabili­ty of participan­ts) wheelchair race and long jump, shot put, javelin and discuss throw. And each athlete might take part only in two events.

An organising committee, including sports experts from Sports Authority of India, Indira Gandhi Institute of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, Secretary, NDMC, Principal, NDMC Aanchal School and sports officer of the NDMC, has been formed for the meet.
