The Delhi Police on Sunday arrested a man in his early 20s in connection with the murder of a septuagenarian couple at Ashok Vihar in northwest Delhi. The accused was hired by the couple a few days ago.

Police sources said that Dinesh was arrested from his native village at Ara in Bihar on Sunday. Preliminary interrogation revealed that Dinesh first went to his house at Jahangirpuri after committing the murder. He kept a portion of the booty there and then took a train.

The couple Ramlal Bhutani, 79, and his wife Kaushal, 73, were found murdered in their house on Saturday morning. The house was ransacked and valuables were found missing. Dinesh became the prime suspect in the case after he went absconding.

The couple had hired an attendant Dulal Sarkar long back and hired Dinesh as the second attendant after Ramlal suffered a cardiac arrest a few days ago and had to undergo a surgery. Dinesh’s shift used to start after Sarkar’s duty was over.

It was Sarkar who raised an alarm and informed the neighbours when he came for duty on Saturday.

Police found that Dinesh was into betting and was known by a different name Deshehri in his circle. Sleuths have recovered Rs8,000 cash, gold and diamond rings and a packet of dry fruits, which he allegedly looted from the residence of Bhutani.
