A 67-year-old woman died while intervening in a quarrel between her son and daughter in northwest Delhi’s Mukundpur on Tuesday night, said police.

According to Milind Dumbere, DCP (north-west), the woman’s son blamed his sister and brother-in-law for her demise. However, the police are awaiting the autopsy report before deciding on takin action.

The dead woman has been identified as Devanti Devi. She lived in Mukundpur with her son and his family. Her daughter and son-in-law lived in another house in the neighbourhood.

“Devi’s children fought frequently over domestic issues. On Tuesday night too, the two siblings were again fighting when their mother tried to intervene,” said the DCP.

As Devi was trying to separate the duo, she suddenly collapsed and was rushed to a nearby hospital. But she died soon after. Police were informed and Devi’s body was sent for post-mortem.

“Devi’s son has accused his sister and brother-in-law of causing her death by roughing her up during a scuffle,” said the DCP. However, no external injuries have been found on the woman’s body.

“The autopsy report will ascertain if somebody hurt her which caused her death or she died of a heart attack or natural causes. Doctors have said the woman was suffering from breathing problems,” said the DCP.
