Chinappa enters semi-finals, faces top seed Annie Au next

India’s top-ranked woman player, Joshna Chinappa entered the semi-finals of the $25,000 HKFC Internatio­nal squash, a PSA World Tour event, with a hard-fought victory over Hong Kong’s Liu Tsz-Ling on Thursday. The Indian national champion won the match 11-8, 8-11, 12- 10, 10-12, 11-3. She now faces top seed Annie Au of Hong Kong in the last four stage of the tournament. in just 32 minutes.

India’s Sivalingam Sathish Kumar and Ragala Venkat Rahul qualified for next year’s Commonweal­th Games after winning a gold medal each in their respective weight divisions at the Commonweal­th Senior (men & women) Weightlift­ing Championsh­ips in Gold Coast,.Rahul created several new records en-route to his standout total lift of 351kg. Sathish Kumar lifted 148kg in snatch and 172kg in clean & jerk for a total effort of 320kg in senior men’s 77kg.
