Brazil have announced their 21-man squad for the FIFA Under-17 World Cup scheduled from Oct 6 to 28 in India. The squad announced on on Friday will feature the promising Vinicius Junior. The wonderkid is set to become the most expensive footballer ever to play in a competitive tournament in India.

The 16-year-old became one of the world’s most expensive teenage signings when Spanish giants Real Madrid agreed to acquire his rights from Flamengo from July 2018 for Euro 45m.

Speaking about the Brazilian playing in India, tournament director Javier Ceppi said, “The FIFA U-17 World Cup has always been a tournament to watch for the future stars and Junior comes with already a fair bit of reputation around him.

Yoshihide Kiryu on Saturday smashed the national 100-metre record clocking 9.98 seconds, becoming the first Japanese to break the 10-second barrier. The 21-year-old, a member of Japan’s silver medal-winning men’s 4x100 relay team at the Rio Olympics, shattered the previous record by 0.02 secs at an intercollegiate meet in Fukui, central Japan. The Tokyo University student started moderately in the final but raced past his rivals to finish first.

U Mumba showed remarkable composure in the last five minutes as they registered a comfortable 51- 41 win over Patna Pirates in the Inter Zone Challenge Week of Pro Kabaddi League.

Kashiling Adake scored 15 points while Shrikant Jadhav chipped in with 13 as U Mumba asserted their dominance over their rivals. Pardeep Narwal’s heroic effort of 21 points went in vain as Patna paid the price for a lackluster first half performance.

It was a close affair in the first five minutes as both teams exchanged raid and tackle points. The second half saw both teams trade raiding points as U Mumba led 27-19 after 22 minutes. Pardeep Narwal and Monu Goyat kept collecting raid points but Pirates could not reduce the lead.
