Gyan Mandir Public School, Naraina, recently celebrated a Social Science Week on the theme 70 Years of India’s Independen­ce. It began with a morning assembly wherein students took part in a debate on STEM and Social Science and a Kissa-goi enactment of a story about Mulla Nasiruddin. Thereafter, the students also presented a skit titled Proud to be an Indian. During the zero period, many events such as Jashne-Azadi quiz, designing a postage stamp on India of My Dreams, and drawing of the national flag and discussion its importance were organised. The celebratio­ns culminated with a Kavi Sammelan in which students recited patriotic poems.

Thereafter, students delivered speeches and recited poems portraying the 21st-century women as confident, prosperous and glowing with health and beauty. Principal Shikha Singh said that the way women are viewed in today’s society is a grave concern. It is an issue deeply rooted in society. She motivated the students to respect each other for their purposeful existence. In the end, every student took an oath in the assembly to take care of their fellow beings.

The school invited career counsellor and speaker Anubhav Rakheja as a resource person who made the parents aware of the eligibilit­y criteria, selection procedure and new policies of the colleges. The parents were also informed about the diverse career choices available in India and abroad. It was a highly interactiv­e session where parents’ queries were answered by the coordinato­rs and representa­tives of Class 11 and the school counsellor.
