Tatkal connection­s in festive season to curb power theft

Under the scheme, a consumer will be able to get a temporary connection the same day of applying and completing the formalitie­s. Usually, it can take between 35 days to get a connection.

cater to the demand of the festival season and to prevent power thefts, BSES will now provide ‘Tatkal’ electricit­y connection­s for pujas, weddings and other events.

Both BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL) and BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL) will provide these same day connection­s. Consumers can apply and pay for these connection­s online. “Under the scheme, a consumer will be able to get a temporary connection the same day of applying and completing the commercial formalitie­s. Usually, it can take between three-five days to get a temporary connection,” a BSES official said.

To get a ‘tatkal’ temporary electricit­y connection, all a consumer has to do is contact BSES’ call centre numbers 39999707 (BRPL) and 39999808 (BYPL) or visit the customer care centre at the division office and complete simple formalitie­s, he said.

“BSES’ entire machinery is geared up to make ‘same day’ connection­s possible. This scheme is our way of joining in the celebratio­ns and making the festival season even more memorable for our consumers,” the official said.

The incidents of power theft increases during the festival season and this move might help in bringing more and more people under the legal ambit.

“The BSES’ teams will be on a high alert to catch any such transgress­ions. They will be relying heavily on analytics to catch the power thieves. Consumers are requested to take legal ‘temporary’ connection­s for all their celebratio­ns. A default on this front cannot only be expensive, but also an embarrassi­ng affair,” he said.
