A suspected robber was allegedly beaten to death and his three accomplices were injured by local residents in outer Delhi’s Shahbad Dairy on Wednesday morning, police said.

The robbers were attempting to break into a house near a temple in Daulatpur village of Shahbad Dairy when a woman woke up on hearing their movements and raised an alarm.

Locals gathered outside the house and caught the robbers, who were jumping from the boundary wall. They caught them before they could run away, tied their hands and legs and allegedly beat them up, police said.

A team of police arrived and took the bleeding robbers to a local hospital. Sandeep alias Tinda (28) was declared brought dead. The other three -- Prince (20), Damdam (24) and Varun (23) – were injured.

The deceased, Sandeep, a resident of Daulatpur village in Shahabad Dairy, was allegedly a habitual offender. He was involved in many cases of snatching, thefts and robbery in the area, police said.

A case has been registered under section 304 (punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder) at Shahabad Dairy police station in Rohini district. Police are going through the video recordings of the incident to identify the people who allegedly beat the robbers.

“The incident took place on Wednesday morning. We registered a case on the same day. The deceased robber was a habitual offender. His remaining three associates, who were injured in the incident, are in a stable condition now. Investigation is underway,” said a senior police officer.
