Blue Whale gets 30 kids hooked in Dantewada

-

states are working with schools to counsel teenagers and wean them away from the game. But the increasing penetration of mobile phones and growing curiosity has proved to be a challenge.

Police said the game appeared to have reached the desolate district, one of the poorest in the country and roiled by insurgent violence, about two months ago. Authorities are now talking to the students’ parents and searching their homes for more clues.

“One child said if he played the game, his father would leave alcohol, another said he wanted to stop his father from forcibly marrying him. They must have come to know about the game through the newspaper or internet. It seems that one child is guiding others about game,” Pallav told HT. Police have now ordered a thorough search of other schools in the region.

The Supreme Court on Friday sought response from the Centre on a 73-year-old man’s petition seeking a ban on the Blue Whale challenge, which has claimed many children’s lives.

A bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices AM Khanwilkar and DY Chandrachud asked the Centre to give its response in three weeks.

The bench also sought assistance of Attorney General KK Venugopal in the matter. HTC

The government is planning to link driving licence with Aadhaar, the 12-digit biometric unique identity number.

“We are planning to link the driving licence with Aadhaar. I have had a word with road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari in this connection,” Union information and technology minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said on Friday at the Digital Haryana Summit 2017.

Union road transport and highways ministry officials said once the driving licence is linked with Aadhaar, it can be easily used to identify the person who already holds a licence. “It will help to check duplication or frauds like issuance of multiple licence under the same name,” said an official. “We have started the process and will soon inform the states,” said an official.

Driving licences are issued by respective states, as it’s a state subject. Gadkari had said in several public forums that nearly every third driver in the country has a bogus licence, blaming atrocious drivers and badly designed roads for most of 1.5 lakh deaths on Indian roads.
