NEW DELHI: Forty days after the decomposed body of a 15-year-old boy was found under shrubs in a public park in southwest Delhi’s Dwarka, the Delhi police on Monday arrested his maternal uncle in connection with the murder. The accused, Nanhe Lal, was a labourer in Longowal in Punjab.

Police said Lal murdered his nephew because he suspected him of allegedly having an affair with his wife. Lal allegedly had attempted to implicate his wife and her brother in the murder case. However, his planning failed when the police found discrepancies in his statements. Also, his versions were not cor- roborated by technical evidence. Lal’s cell phone call location was found near the crime scene while he had told police that he was in Punjab at the time of the crime.

The throat of the boy, Monu, was slit with a knife. His identity was established with the help of his Aadhar card that was found in his pocket. His body was found by a local resident at a park in Dwarka Sector 18 on August 1, said police.

Gaurav Sharma, additional DCP (southwest), said Lal was caught on Sunday from Delhi’s Sagarpur area following information that he would come there to meet someone.

During the interrogation, Lal said that in 2013, he along with his wife shifted to Punjab from his hometown in Uttar Pradesh for livelihood. Soon, he started suspecting her of infidelity and often beat her up. This forced his wife to return to Delhi but after some months he managed to brought her back.

In 2016, Lal’s nephew started living with him. Enraged with his wife’s closeness with Monu, Lal sent him back but he again returned in June 2017. His wife also left him again and returned to her family in Delhi.

“Lal decided to get rid of his wife and nephew by murdering him and falsely implicating her and her brother in the murder case. He brought Monu to Delhi to get his Aadhar card from his wife’s house and murdered him in the park,” said Sharma.
