No coercive action on Le Meridien: HC
NEWDELHI: The Delhi High Court on Monday stayed NDMC from taking any coercive action against CJ International Hotel Ltd (CJI), operator of Delhi’s Le Meridien Hotel, such as disconnection of electricity and water supply to the Hotel Block.
CJ International Hotel Ltd had moved the high court challenging a public notice of NDMC, in which it had threatened to cut off water and electricity to the hotel.
The high court recorded the assurance given by the counsel for NDMC that “...para 15 of the communication dated September 9, 2017 is being withdrawn by the respondent (NDMC) till the time as appropriate order is passed under Section 5 of the Public Premises (Eviction of Unauthorised Occupants) Act, 1971 by the Estate Officer; the water and electricity shall also not be disturbed till that time”.
The NDMC had issued a public notice against CJ International threatening to cut its power and water connections over non-payment of dues to the tune of Rs 605 crore.
Earlier this month, the high court had ordered desealing of a commercial tower on the Le Meridien premises, granting relief to more than 90 occupants of the building.
This tower was sealed by NDMC, a day after the HC had dismissed the hotel’s plea seeking a stay on the eviction order.
There are two towers on the hotel premises.
The nine-floor building houses many national and international office complexes.
