Car robbery in Noida ends in chase, 1 killed in shootout

NEW DELHI: A robber was killed and a policeman was injured during a late-night shoot out on Tuesday in Bisrakh area in Greater Noida.

According to police, the miscreants robbed a Delhi-based businessma­n of his Honda City car and ₹1.5 lakh at gunpoint late on Tuesday night from Noida’s Sector 62. Soon after the incident, the police swung into action, as the businessma­n informed police about the robbery on UP Police helpline.

After receiving the informatio­n, Sector 58 police station in-charge Anil Pratap Singh and his team started chasing the robbers, who were speeding towards Greater Noida. The police also alerted Greater Noida police about the robbery.

Bisrakh Police too swung into action and intercepte­d the robbers at Cherry County in Tech Zone-4 in Greater Noida.

“After being surrounded by police, robbers opened fire at the police party, in retaliatio­n the police also fired at the robbers. During the crossfire, one of the robbers received injuries to his chest, stomach and leg, while a police constable too received bullet injuries to his left arm. The other two miscreants fled the spot leaving behind the car and cash robbed from the businessma­n,” said Love Kumar, the senior superinten­dent of police, Gautam Budh Nagar.

At least 20 rounds were fired from both the sides during the encounter.

undergoing treatment at the hospital, police said.

Police has recovered the car, cash, an illegal weapon and three live cartridges after the encounter and is on lookout for the other two accomplice­s.

According to police, a Delhibased businessma­n, Vinod, was returning to Delhi from Dasna in his car, when three bike-borne miscreants held him at gunpoint near Sector 62, and robbed his car and the cash he was carrying.

The police official said, “The deceased miscreant was identified as Balwinder, a native of Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh.”

Balwinder is a history-sheeter and has at least two dozen cases registered against him in different districts of Uttar Pradesh as well as other states, police said.

For swift action and courageous attempt by Bisrakh and Sector 58 police teams in averting the robbery, Inspector General of Police of Meerut range announced a cash reward of ₹50,000 for both the teams.
