NEWDELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday formally took over the murder case of an eight-year-old boy, who was killed inside Ryan International School, Bhondsi, with his throat slit on September 8.

The CBI said that they had taken over the investigations after receiving a formal request from the Haryana government.

“We have received a formal request of the Haryana government and a subsequent notification by the Central government in this regard. The formality of registration of FIR is being completed,” said a CBI spokesperson.

Earlier in the day, the father of the victim, a Class 2 student, had threatened to approach the Supreme Court if the case was not handed over to the CBI soon.

The father of the victim said that he has written to the Prime Minister’s Office as well as other ministers, fearing evidence may be lost when the school reopens on Monday.

“It has been more than a week and the case has still not been transferred to the CBI. Crucial evidence will be lost and tampered with if the CBI does not inspect the spot soon. I requested Sushma Swaraj, since she is also a mother and can feel the pain of losing a child,” he said.

The local police had registered an FIR under sections 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code and 25 of the Arms Act. The police later added section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act and 12 of the POCSO Act as well.

Sources said as of now the CBI was going to re-register the FIR registered by the Haryana police in the case and take over the case diary and all other items collected by the local police during their probe.

The agency will seek remand of bus conductor Ashok Kumar for custodial interrogation and may subject him to a lie detection test, if required.

The family of the accused has alleged that Ashok confessed to murder due to police torture.

The police, during their probe, had arrested a school bus conductor, Ashok Kumar, 42, as the prime accused in the case. Kumar allegedly had confessed to having killed the Class 2 student after first trying to sexually abuse him.

The boy’s parents, however, claimed that their son was murdered as he must have seen some dirty secret in the school.
