India thrash Bhutan 3-0 in SAFF U-18 C’ships

THIMPHU: India bounced back from their opening game defeat to Bangladesh as they thrashed hosts Bhutan 3-0 in their match of the SAFF U-18 Championsh­ips. Lalawmpuia missed a penalty in the 26th minute but redeemed himself with an opportunis­tic goal in the 38th minute and added another in the 79th. Asish Rai scored the third in injury time. With this win, India are third in the table with three points .

GHOSAL REACHES SEMIS

MACAU: India’s leading squash player, Saurav Ghosal, moved into the semi-finals of the $50,000 Macau Open. Facing Hong Kong’s Tsz Fung Yip, Ghoshal carved out a 11-7, 11-5, 11-6 win in 38 minutes. Ghosal will play Ger- man, Simon Rosner, next.

DEBORAH WINS MEDAL

ASHGABAT: Indian cyclist Deborah Herold bagged her third medal with a silver in women’s keirin event on the seventh day of the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games .Deborah finished second in the six lap keirin event in track cycling behind Lee Wai Sze of Hong Kong.

VANI SHOOTS EVEN PAR

MARBELLA: Indian golfer Vani Kapoor shot even par 72 with five birdies against five bogeys to lietied-52nd at the end of the first round in the Andalucia Costadel Sol Open de Espana Femenino.

The other two Indians in the field -- Neha Tripathi was tied-89 and Amandeep Drall was tied109th -- and will need solid rounds to make the cut.
