NEW DELHI: A family in outer Delhi’s Rohini alleged that their four-year-old dog was kidnapped from outside their house on September 19.

Though the theft was caught on three CCTV cameras, police are yet to trace the dog or identify the man caught on tape. The family has printed over 400 posters announcing a reward of ₹5,000 for the missing Pug.

Rishipal, deputy commissioner of police (Rohini), said that a case of theft was registered at the Vijay Vihar police station after a complaint was filed by Jigyasha’s family. “A probe has been launched,” said the DCP.

There have been many cases of pug thefts in Delhi. In May, a north Delhi resident’s pet was also went missing, after which he offered a reward of ₹11,000 to find his dog.

Jigyasha, a resident of Rohini’s sector 5, who works at a multinational company in Gurgaon said that on September 19, some painters had come to her house and were working inside. “They accidentally left the main door open and Candy (the Pug) went out. Usually Candy would play in the park outside our house but that day, she stepped on the road and was taken,” she said, adding that the family was excited to celebrate her fifth birthday next week.

Jigyasha said that the CCTV footage accessed from a vehicle service centre and her neighbour’s house shows a tall man wearing a green shirt running with the dog. In the footage, the man is seen forcing the dog to run beside him. “He took our pet towards Rithala village. It looks like he is a local. We had initially printed around 200 pamphlets and pasted it near our house but it seems somebody removed it. We have printed 200 more posters and will paste to find our pet,” she said.
