Klopp insists Liverpool on right path after thrilling win

LEICESTER: Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp insisted his side is thriving, despite the pressure they faced during a recent fourgame winless streak that was ended with a 3-2 victory at Leicester City on Saturday.

Klopp’s side have come in for criticism at both ends of the pitch as a misfiring attack has failed to take its chances while a leaky defence has struggled to keep a clean sheet.

Klopp said: “I thought we were deserved winners. It’s a good day. I loved how we fought for the result. It could have been clearer, but after a few games without a win you have to fight back.

“We feel we are in a really good way but we have to show it with results so everybody can see it. You could see it at 2-0 up the game looked a bit different, we wanted to manage it, but it was too early and we were in the wrong spaces. I know about pressure, I have actually had pressure all my life for different reasons.

MOURINHO CAUTIOUS DESPITE FAST START

SOUTHAMPTON: Manchester United’s manager Jose Mourinho said on Saturday it is too early to talk about a challenge for the Premier League title despite watching his side win their fifth match out of six.

United, who have not won the title since Alex Ferguson was at the helm in 2013, are second in the table, level with Manchester City on 16 points, but with an inferior goal difference.

The Portuguese manager conceded his team have started better than last season but sees next month, when they face Liverpool and Tottenham , as more significant.

“I know that last season (by) this fixture I think we would have, maybe, five or six points less than we have this season. So we are better this season than last. But this is nothing,” he said.

PEP URGES CITY TO MAINTAIN GOAL BLITZ

MANCHESTER: Pep Guardiola challenged his Man City stars to keep firing on all cylinders as they look to maintain their top spot.

City have now scored 16 times in their last three top-flight

games, but Guardiola is demanding more from his players after they struggled to turn their dominance into goals in the first half.

“Nobody went to take the ball and start to play, so it’s five or 10 seconds before someone moves

and takes the ball,” he said.

“When that happens, everything is slow. The ball boys were slow, everybody was slow. We have to be creative and provoke the situations and we didn’t for most of the time in the first half.”
