Govt instructs checking of all schools, verification of guards
NEWDELHI: The Delhi government has ordered a probe into the alleged renting out of classrooms at a municipal school in east Delhi. The incident came to light after a raid by Delhi education minister at the school in Kalyanpuri on Thursday night.
Sisodia on Friday said he had directed the education department to conduct inspections in all schools and check if such situations existed elsewhere too.
Sisodia has asked chief secretary MM Kutty to meet the East Delhi Municipal Corporation commissioner and conduct an investigation in the matter.
“I have asked the chief secretary to get the issue probed and submit a report to me. How can this have been happening for three-four months. How could unidentified people been staying in a school building? Food was being cooked there. What if a student opens the cupboard and gets access to knives?” he said.
Sisodia said that he was informed the same is happening in some other schools too.
Sisodia has also asked the education department to get police verification of all guards. “I have asked the education secretary to check all government schools, NDMC schools and MCD schools to ensure principals cross-check such incidents are not happening in other schools,” he said.
NOT THE FIRST TIME
This was not the first time when EDMC had come across such an incident .
During a school’s inspection in Shahdara north zone in June this year, a classroom was found to be occupied by a contractual labourer, who had been assigned the task of doing some construction work . Immediate orders were issued for vacating the room.
