‘L-G’S ideas on loan scheme implemented’
NEWDELHI: Deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia said the government has already incorporated many of the ideas suggested recently by the Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal over higher education loan guarantee scheme.
Baijal had earlier this week said that his advice to make the government’s loan scheme more robust was “misconstrued” as disapproval by Sisodia.
Sisodia said the L-G’S suggestion that the education loan should be linked with the National Academic Depository (NAD) is “excellent” as this will ensure both authenticity and speed of the process of authentication of academic documents.
He said that the disbursal of loans should not be stopped till this feature is incorporated.
Sisodia, however, expressed surprise at the difference in concerns raised i n the letter addressed to him and what the file sent from the L-G’S office actually has stated.
“The L-G has repeatedly expressed his concern for the students of Delhi who need access to higher education. If the matter is referred to the Govern- ment of India, via the MHA it will take years and years to resolve the issue and will effectively never see the light of day. The needy students of Delhi will be denied the opportunity to access higher education,” Sisodia said.
Sisodia said that unless the L-G exercises the power vested in him and approves the scheme, needy students completing school education in Delhi would be denied their right to access higher education.
In another letter to the LG, Sisodia has said it was “saddening” that the L-G did not call the government for discussion regarding the decision on the teachers recruitment process.
“…it is very saddening that when the LG takes decisions regarding teachers recruitment — that deeply affect government schools — and does not even call us for a discussion,” Sisodia said.
Sisodia said he was never informed by the L-G’S office that the recruitment process has been put on hold or that the L-G had asked for a proposal to consider the policy for weightage for guest teachers.
Sisodia said he got to know about the process being put on hold from a newspaper advertisement of DSSSB.
