Parents protest as suspended Ryan principal gets job in another branch
GURGAON: Parents of students of Ryan International School in sector 40 have decided to approach district administration over the appointment of Neerja Batra, former officiating principal of the school’s Bhondsi branch. They will meet the sub-divisional magistrate and the school authorities on Wednesday.
Batra was suspended from Ryan I nternational School, Bhondsi, on September 9 after the murder of an eight-year-old boy in the school premises a day before. She was suspended for negligence in delivering her duties.
Gurgaon’s deputy commissioner, Vinay Pratap Singh, ordered Batra’s transfer to the school’s sector 40 branch. “I, as administrator after discussion with stakeholders had decided to send Batra back to Sector 40. Now it’s prerogative of Ryan management to use her services. Since she had highlighted deficiencies to Ryan management multiple times about Bhondsi branch and had no financial powers, she has not been held responsible for the unfortunate incident in preliminary inquiry,” he said.
Meanwhile, Peeya Sharma, principal of Ryan International School in sector 40, said they will not avail Batra’s services. “We had received a written order on Tuesday from the DC but the management will not allow her to take classes as parents are agitated and we cannot go against the parents. We will ask her not to join the school,” said Sharma.
Parents allege that the school management is playing smart by appointing her back as a teacher.
“Now, the Ryan management will use the mails to prove that they were involved and concerned about security issues and were trying to plan various things even before the murder happened and will escape easily,” said a parent.
Several parents have decided to shift their wards from Sector 40 branch.
Also, the father of the victim is unhappy with Batra joining another branch. “By sending a mail, the responsibility of a principal does not end. She could have done a rigorous follow up.”
