DELHI BJP CHIEF HAS SOUGHT APPOINTMENT FROM PM MODI AND THE SESSION MAY BE HELD BEFORE DIWALI

NEWDELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) councillors in Delhi are likely to get lessons in good governance, ‘zero tolerance’ against corruption, and tips for implementing government policies in an effective manner from Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself.

Party insiders said the state leadership is planning to hold an interaction session with the PM exclusively for elected representatives of the three municipal corporations in which they will be exhorted to work hard with honesty.

“The state unit chief Manoj Tiwari has sought an appointment with the PM. No date has been finalised yet. Once, he gets a go ahead, a detailed itinerary will be prepared. We will decide whether all 184 councillors will meet him on the same day or meeting will be organised in batches,” said a party official.

The meeting with Modi assumes significance as it is being organised against a backdrop of complaints reaching Tiwari about functioning of several councillors who are hold- ing significant positions in MCDS. THEBJP, whichhas been in power in corporation since 2007, draws criticism over alleged corruption and its failure to make city clean regardless of PM’S ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ launched in 2014.

Tiwari confirmed the development but refused to divulge any further details.

“The corporations seem to have returned on the same track. There is a strong feeling in the state leadership that the decision to pick all new faces in municipal elections has failed to serve the purpose therefore the councillors need to be reminded of the PM’S agenda and poll promises. The party was accorded a historic mandate in the name of clean administration and it is our duty to deliver now,” said a BJP leader, adding the meeting may take place before Diwali.
