AZADPUR VIOLENCE The boy had allegedly fought with another passenger minutes earlier, the constable thrashed him during questioning after which he called his family to the station

NEWDELHI: Two days after a CISF personnel opened fire inside the Azadpur metro station, a video showed a Delhi Police constable repeatedly slapping a minor boy before his relatives allegedly barged inside the station and created a ruckus.

The 1.42-minute video, reportedly captured by a CCTV camera installed in the Metro premises, showed the constable twisting the boy’s arms, pinning him against the wall and slapping him at least four times. Another youth, with whom the boy had allegedly fought with minutes earlier, is seen sitting on the floor.

Pankaj Kumar Singh, DCP (Metro), confirmed to Hindustan Times that the man in question was indeed a Delhi Police constable. He said the police would probe the circumstances in which the constable was seen hitting the boy.

“The boy (being slapped) was already embroiled in a scuffle with another passenger at the ticket counter. When the CISF approached us for help, the constable brought both the youths to a room for questioning,” the DCP told HT when asked about the apparent high-handedness of the cop. The officer alleged that the boy was adamant about not co-operating with the investigator. “We need to ascertain the reason why the boy was slapped,” said the officer. He said an enquiry was ordered into the case.

Soon after the slapping incident at around 7.30pm on Monday, the boy allegedly called his family for help. A statement issued by the CISF on the day of the incident said around 15-20 persons barged into the Metro station and turned violent.

The CISF said the mob beat up the rival passenger and a CISF constable. “When the CISF personnel tried to control them, they manhandled them and threatened to harm them,” said the officer.

CCTV footage of the violence showed some people manhandling an armed CISF man when he was apparently trying to separate the warring groups. He then pulled out his pistol and fired in the air, causing chaos at the station.

The police have already booked the boy and his supporters who allegedly turned violent. The boy was apprehended and two of his relatives arrested.

The police are yet to register any case against their own man seen slapping in the video.
