Opposition walks out after CM’S ‘taunt’
NEWDELHI: Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s “mard ka baccha” taunt on the floor of the house didn’t go well with the Opposition, which staged a walk out while the guest teachers’ regularisation bill was being tabled.
The Opposition accused the chief minister of using ‘indecent’ language out of frustration, while alleging the move to regularise 15,000 guest teachers was a “populist measure without legal and constitutional framework”.
“How can a CM use such abusive words likeon the floor of the house. This shows his frustration as his government has not done any work in last two and half years,” Vijendra Gupta, BJP MLA from Rohini, told mediapersons later.
Earlier in his speech, Kejriwal also dared the Opposition to stop using bureaucrats as a shield.
“You do your politics by hiding behind officials (bureaucrats). I dare you to show guts and face us,” the CM dared Gupta, while referring to obstacles put by Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal in clearing the Regularisation of services of guest teachers and teachers engaged under the Sarva Sikshsa Abhiyan Bill, 2017. Baijal had on Tuesday urged Kejriwal to reconsider the bill.
Gupta said that the government was deliberately misleading the guest teachers by bringing the ‘populist’ bill.
“The government is indulging in drama. They have 66 MLAS and are still insecure of four Opposition members,” Gupta said.
Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari also accused Kejriwal of showing no respect for the Constitution by indulging in abusive language during the special session.
The Delhi government on Wednesday moved a resolution against the upcoming Delhi Metro fare hike. The assembly also urged the Union ministry of urban development to “quickly and actively intervene” for reversal of the increase in commuting charges.
Delhi transport minister Kailash Gahlot while moving the resolution said that the government is “dismayed” with the insensitive approach of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and the Centre towards the proposed hike.
Gahlot also criticised the Centre for its various steps towards economic reforms.
“Such anti-people proposal is sought to be implemented when the common man is already reeling under severe financial burden imposed by poor implementation of GST, demonetization, unprecedented price rise, hike in fuel prices and general economic mismanagement by the Centre,” the Aam Aadmi Party leader said.
The minister further added that the fare hike to be rolled out on October 10 was “against the wishes of the Delhi government and in gross violation of recommendation of the fare fixation committee”.
ASSEMBLY EXTENDED BY ONE DAY
The Speaker Ram Niwas Goel on Wednesday extended the special session of the Assembly by a day, where the legislators would meet again on Monday.
The Speaker also gave an extension to various Assembly committees for submission of their reports.
