FARIDABAD: A minor girl jumped from the eleventh floor of a building in Faridabad on Wednesday, but miraculously survived after getting entangled in a net tied to the balcony of a flat.

The girl, aged around 14-15 years, allegedly tried to end her life because she was being ‘tortured’ by her employer.

Doctors said the child had been beaten up and was suffering from malnourishment.

Police said they were informed about the incident around 7pm. Local residents of Kanishka Tower in Sector 37 Faridabad spotted the minor with bruises on her body caught in a net of the tenth floor balcony of the building. The net was reportedly tied to the balcony grille to cover the flat and keep away pigeons.

A crowd gathered at the spot within minutes.

“The girl was caught in the net of a flat (number 1001), which was locked. After the girl was spotted by locals, the flat was opened by the girl’s employer and she was rescued. We learnt that the girl had been badly beaten up. She worked as a maid with a student from Patna, who is studying in a private university,” said Tarun Sharma, a resident of B block in Kanishka Tower.

Once the police control room was alerted, a team from Sarai police station rushed to the spot and took the girl’s employer into custody.

The minor was immediately rushed to a local nursing home by residents.

“The child needs counselling and help from social welfare department. She was battered and is a victim of malnourishment. There were some injury marks on her body which looked to be old,” said Rakesh Sharma of Astha Children Clinic.

Police said they will record the teenager’s statement in front of the child welfare committee. “A case will be registered. We have detained the girl’s employer,” station head officer of Sarai, Dalbir Singh said.
