GHAZIABAD: It has been nearly four years for both Nupur and Dr Rajesh Talwar at Dasna jail in Ghaziabad. And in these four years, the dentist couple helped revive the near defunct dental department at the jail hospital.

“After t hey arrived, we requested them to consider serving the inmates. Our dental department at the jail hospital was almost shut and there were growing number of complaints from inmates about dental issues. We could not send most of them to government hospitals outside as it meant deploying police personnel each time,” said an officer from Dasna jail.

Once they took up the job, jail officials procured more equipment. Other doctors also started arriving. “Now, no inmate from the jail is sent outside for the treatment of dental problems. Nupur Talwar treats women while Rajesh is assigned to treat male inmates. They have done their job with utmost professionalism,” he added.

“Their family members, especially Dinesh Talwar (brother of Rajesh), often come to meet them. The families share a strong bond,” the officer added.

The couple are in jail for the murders of their daughter Aarushi and domestic help Hemraj Banjade. A CBI court had held them guilty and awarded them life imprisonment. The verdict was delivered nearly five-andhalf years after Aarushi and Hemraj were found murdered at Talwars’ Jalvayu Vihar residence at Noida on the intervening night of May 15/16, 2008.
