‘Unsporting’ Kyrgios fined in Shanghai for storming off court

SHANGHAI: Australian Nick Kyrgios was fined $10,000 and lost another $21,085 in prize money after storming off midway through his first-round match at the Shanghai Masters. The ATP said it had fined Kyrgios for unsportsma­nlike conduct and he will not collect his prize money because he failed to get signed off for a medical after retiring from his match. Kyrgios’s time at the Shanghai Masters is over after he also pulled out of his scheduled doubles match with Frenchman Lucas Pouille.

TEEN OSAKA SHOCKS VENUS IN 2ND ROUND

HONGKONG: Venus Williams suffered a shock exit in the second round of the Hong Kong Open, comprehens­ively beaten 7-5, 6-2 by teenager Naomi Osaka. Japan’s top-ranked player reeled off eight consecutiv­e games at one stage to power into the quarter-finals. “She played well,” a disappoint­ed 37-year-old Williams told reporters.

ANTHONY ERVIN FOR DELHI HALF-MARATHON

NEW DELHI: Four-time Olympic medallist swimmer Anthony Ervin was named event ambassador of the 10th Airtel Delhi Half Marathon scheduled on November 19. Ervin has the distinctio­n of being the youngest and oldest medal winner in men’s 50m freestyle at Olympics. He won the 50 metre freestyle gold medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics 16 years after he won his first gold medal in the same event at 2000 Sydney Olympics.

MIXED DAY FOR AJAY MALIK IN FENESTA OPEN

NEWDELHI: Haryana’s Ajay Malik lost to Krish Patel 7-6 (1), 6-0 in the U-16 event of the Juniors Fenesta Open Nationals but beat Arjun A Kundu 6-2, 6-1 in the U-14 event at DLTA. Top seed Madhwin Kamath beat Vansh Bhagtani 6-3, 6-1 in the round of 16 and second seed Dev V Javia beat Shashikant Rajput 6-1, 6-4.

BANGALORE BULLS BEAT DABANG DELHI

JAIPUR: Bengaluru Bulls beat Dabang Delhi 35-32 in a clash of bottom-placed teams in the Pro Kabaddi League. This was Delhi’s 15th loss of this season. Rohit Kumar (12 points) and Ajay Kumar (10 points) led Bengaluru Bulls charge. Dabang Delhi are bottom of the table in Zone A with 37 points from 21 matches. Bengaluru Bulls are fifth in Zone B with 44 points from 19 matches.

INDIAN CYCLISTS TAKE GOLD TALLY TO SEVEN

NEWDELHI: India team of Manjeet Singh, Dinesh Kumar, A Bike Singh and Manohar Lal won gold in the senior Team Pursuit event, while Raju Bati claimed India’s second gold of the day in the 3km individual pursuit at the Track Asia Cup cycling. India’s medals tally is up to 17, with seven gold.
