NEW DELHI: A 34-year-old woman has told police that was allegedly sexually assaulted by two unidentified bike-borne men in south Delhi’s Nangli Dewat near Vasant Kunj on Tuesday night.

Police said the woman from Noida in Uttar Pradesh was waiting for a cab near Indian Spinal Injuries Centre (ISIC) on Nangli Dewat-vasant Kunj road when the duo allegedly grrabbed her and tried to drag her into some bushes. When she resisted, they allegedly beat her up and fled on their motorcycle.

Police said the alleged crime took place around midnight.

Ishwar Singh, DCP (south), said a case of gangrape was registered at the Vasant Kunj south police station against unknown men on the woman’s complaint.

The police said the woman has earlier filed two cases of rape, causing medical termination of pregnancies and sexual harassment against her alleged former boyfriend at police stations in Greater Noida and Noida three months ago.

The DCP said the accused was arrested in the rape and pregnancy termination case by the Uttar Pradesh police but was later managed to secure bail. The woman filed the second FIR soon after he was released on bail.

“We called him for questioning too after the woman filed complaint of the latest sexual assault case,” said Singh.

During questioning, the man told the police that he was not present anywhere near the crime scene on Tuesday night. A police officer said the man’s mobile phone location was also not found in that area. “His questioning is still on,” said the officer.

During the probe in her latest case, the officer said, it was found that the woman had booked a cab at 11.40pm to travel a distance of less than a kilometre. “As her journey ended at an isolated place, the cab driver offered to drop her at a safe place without charging any money. But the woman asked him to leave saying she would book another cab. The crime took place after the cab driver left,” said the officer.
