Indian cyclists finish on top with 7 gold

NEWDELHI: India topped the medal tally with seven gold, nine silver and five bronze medals in the Track Asia Cup here on Thursday. Indian cycling team finished their campaign by winning four medals on Thursday, including two silver and two bronze. China finished second with four gold and two silver while Indonesia secured third place with four gold, one silver and two bronze medals.

DEBORAH QUALIFIES

NEWDELHI: India’s Deborah Herold and Aleena Reji have qualified for the UCI Track Cycling World Cup to be held i n Manchester, England from Nov 10-12. The Indian duo obtained enough points to enter into the qualifying rounds of UCI Cycling World Cup events following their strong show in the Track Asia Cup here. Deborah and Aleena will participat­e in team sprint event as well as keirin and individual sprint event in the World Cup.

INDIAN SHUTTLERS LOSE

YOGJAKARTA (INDONESIA): Indian shuttlers suffered a 0-3 loss against Malaysia in the quarterfin­als of World Junior Mixed Team Championsh­ips on Thursday. Eng Cheong Ng and Sueh Jeou Tan of Malaysia beat India’s Dhruv Kapila and UK Mithula 21-18, 21-10 in mixed doubles. Lakshya Sen lost to Jun Hao Leong, 13-21,15-21 in men’s singles, while Ashmita Chaliha lost 12-21, 12-21 to Goh Jin Wei in women’s singles.

KUSHAN BEATS TOP SEED

NEWDELHI: Kushan Shah soaked in the pressure on the big stage and demolished top seed Madhwin Kamath 6-1; 6-2 in the under-16 quarter-finals of the Fenesta Open national tennis championsh­ip. Eighth seed Kevin Mrugesh Peter also sailed through as he beat Sandeep VM 6-0, 6-2 in the under-16 quarter-final.

BHAMBRI-SHARAN WIN

TASHKENT: Indian team of Yuki Bhambri and Divij Sharan on Thursday stormed into the summit clash of the Tashkent Challenger with a come-from-behind win over Guillermo Garcia-lopez and Enrique Lopez-perez. The unseeded Indian combo beat the Spaniards 3-6, 7-5, 10-6.

UP YODDHA TRIUMPH

JAIPUR: Rishank Devadiga wrote his name in history books, scoring 28 points as UP Yoddha hammered Jaipur Pink Panthers 53-32 in a Pro Kabaddi League. Devadiga created the record for most points scored by a raider.
