NEW DELHI: A day after his iconic blue Maruti Wagonr was stolen from outside the Delhi Secretariat, chief minister Arvind Kejriwal wrote to Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal saying that law and order situation in the Capital is rapidly “deteriorating.”

In his letter to Baijal, Kejriwal asked what the people of Delhi should expect when the chief minister’s car gets stolen from outside his office. “My car getting stolen is a small matter. But the fact that it went missing outside the Delhi Secretariat reflects the rapidly deteriorating law and order situation in Delhi,” Kejriwal wrote.

He went on to take a jibe at the Delhi Police saying that upon receiving his letter, the police will try to paint a rosy picture of law and order in the city “by sharing favourable statistics.” “What can the common men expect in a state where the chief minister’s car goes missing? ” he said.

Kejriwal had used the blue Wagonr till the 2015 Assembly election. In many ways, the hatchback had helped cement his “aam aadmi” image. The car was being used by an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) functionary over the last few months.

NO BREAKTHROUGH YET

Delhi Police, meanwhile, are yet to make a breakthrough in the case. Over 40 people, including active vehicles thieves and those previously involved in similar crimes, have been grilled by the police since Thursday afternoon. However, the police remain clueless about the identity of the thief.

Manjeet Singh Randhawa, deputy commissioner of police (central), told HT, “Ten teams have been formed to identify the thief and recover the stolen car at the earliest,” said Randhawa.
