GHAZIABAD: Ghaziabad Police on Saturday recovered a blue hatchback t hat t hey said belonged to Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal.
“The car we recovered from Mohan Nagar early Saturday morning is the same Wagonr chief minister Arvind Kejriwal used. We informed Delhi police, who later towed the car from Sahibabad police station to the Capital as a case is already registered there.,” said Akash Tomar, superintendent of police (city).
Officials said they found a sword, bags, cartons and a badminton racquet inside the vehicle.
The theft of the chief minister’s car had brought the spotlight back on the problem of car thefts in Delhi where an average of 112 vehicles are stolen every day. Kejriwal had also raised the issue with Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal, the man Delhi’s Police reports to.
Ghaziabad police said the car was found abandoned near a hospital at Mohan Nagar.
“There is no damage to the car and the doors were found to be locked. The Delhi police officials were informed. We are carrying out investigations too and the inputs will be shared with Delhi police. We have also roped in forensic teams,” Tomar added.
Officials of Delhi Police earlier said that Wagonr was stolen around 1pm on Thursday and was captured by a surveillance camera outside the Delhi secretariat.
The footage, however, was too blurry to determine the identity of the suspect.
The car was being used by Vandana Singh, the Aam Aadmi Party’s in-charge of youth wing and the party’s media coordinator. It was often seen parked at the party office at Central Delhi’s Deen Dayal Upadhya Marg.
The car was donated to Kejriwal in January, 2013 by Aam Aadmi Party’s Uk-based volunteer Kundan Sharma.
