GHAZIABAD: Dr Rajesh and Nupur Talwar, who were acquitted in the murder case of their daughter, Aarushi, and domestic help, Hemraj by Allahabad High Court on Thursday, will not come out of jail before Monday.

The dentist couple are lodged in the Dasna Jail.officials said they could not be released on Saturday because the documents could not be processed on account of a holiday at the district court. Prison officials said the couple will now be released only by Monday.

The local lawyers of Talwars, who represented them during the trial in Ghaziabad, said they received the certified copy of the high court order on Saturday morning.

“Since the court was closed, the documents will now be submitted before the court on Monday. We will expedite the formalities and hope that completed documents reach Dasna jail by Monday afternoon,” said Manoj Sisodia, the Talwars’ lawyer in Ghaziabad.

Jail officials said that both Nupur and Rajesh were anxious to read the copy of the high court judgment.

“They have been scanning newspapers and other information about order. They are anxious to read the judgment and comments made by the court. Since we do not have a copy of the judgment, we could not provide it to them,” said DR Maurya, jail superintendent.

As per jail manual, the relatives and family members of inmates lodged in jail are allowed to meet each other for 30 minutes on Saturdays.

“Both met each other. We also allowed them to meet each other for short time on Thursday after the judgment was delivered. However, none of their family members or relatives has come to meet them, probably because of the huge media presence outside jail complex,” Maurya said.

On Saturday, the district magistrate, senior superintendent of police and other officials reached Dasna jail and conducted a surprise inspection of the entire jail premises.

The Talwars were convicted for life imprisonment in November, 2013 for the murder of their daughter Aarushi and domestic help Hemraj. The murders took place inside their residence at Jalvayu Vihar in Noida on the intervening night of May 15/16, 2008.

Since the conviction order by the trial court, the dentist couple is lodged at Dasna jail. Following the trial court conviction order, Talwars moved into appeal at the high court.

“The appellants are acquitted of all the charges framed against them. Both the appellants are in jail. They shall be released forthwith unless they are wanted in some other case subject to their complying with the provisions of Section 437A CR.P.C. (sic.),” the high court said in its judgment.
