NEWDELHI: An East Delhi Municipal Corporation councillor filed a complaint at the Anand Vihar police station on Sunday over some ‘objectionable’ content circulated by a senior official through messaging app Whatsapp on Saturday.

Gunjan Gupta, councillor from Anand Vihar, alleged that a group was created on Whatsapp by the senior official for exchanging daily plans, information on sanitation and demolition drives conducted in wards under his jurisdiction. Councillors and EDMC officials are its members.

“At 12:05 am, he shared ‘objectionable’ content on the group. I immediately expressed my displeasure over this message, followed by others too. But the official neither apologised nor replied,” she said.

“The group has 19 women councillors and the incident has come as a big shock for us. I don’t think anyone would be comfortable talking to him now. I spoke to other councillors, including Deputy Mayor of EDMC Bipin Bihari and they all supported my step to file a police complaint,” she said.

HT tried contacting the official but he was not available for comments. EDMC commissioner Ranbir Singh said no formal complaint had been received by him in this regard. “If we receive any complaint, then a proper enquiry would be conducted and action would be taken as per norms,” said Singh.

Nupur Prasad, deputy commissioner of police, Shahdara, said, “We have registered a case under Section 67 A of the IT Act, probe is underway.”
