Modern School, Barakhamba Road, hosts 7th International Model UN Conference
Modern School, Barakhamba Road,
held the seventh edition of International Model UN Conference. The opening ceremony was presided over by Chief Guest Navika Kumar, Managing Editor, Times Now. Principal Dr Vijay Datta followed with the official opening of the conference by the President of the MUN Society. MUN 2017 saw the participation of over 600 delegates from more than 35 schools.
These delegates were split into twelve committees, which featured fiery debate on a variety of agendas including the UN General Assembly, which took to combating the uptrend in transnational organised crime; UN Security Council concerned itself with the situation in the Western Sahara; the UN Economic Commission on Africa took on the highly technical agenda of combating economic neo-colonialism.
The conference also saw the simulation of more unconventional chambers like the Congress of Vienna, the International Court of Justice and Section 5 of Britain’s Military Intelligence Service.

Greenfields Public School, Dilshad Garden,
visited the Iran Culture Centre with a group of sixteen students and three teachers and interacted with the Deputy Cultural Counsellor, Embassy of Islamic Republic of Iran, Hojatollah Abedi. It was a part of the ISA Project ‘Rhythm and Soul’ which focussed on exploration of the National Anthems of Iran, Ghana, Bangladesh, Pakistan and India. The students and teachers interacted with Abedi who enlightened them on various aspects of the culture, traditions, languages, historical background of Iran. ISA Coordinator cum Incharge Neelam Singh extended her gratitude to Abedi, Founder Principal Dr. Manik Barsaley and Principal Dr. S.K Sharma for the hospitality and the valuable time they had spared.
Darshan Academy, Kirpal Bagh,
participated in the 52nd Youth Parliament Competition organised by Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs. Rajya Sabha Ex MP Bratin Sen Gupta, Official from the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs Savidha Mohan and observers from Directorate of Education Sunita Bhargav and Veena Maini graced the occasion. The programme started with the welcome address by the Principal A. David followed by activities like Human Chain and cleaning the nearby areas to keep Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of ‘Clean India’. After the Oath taking ceremony, the Young Parliamentarians began their session. The Vote of Thanks was presented by Mamta Sabharwal, Middle Academic Coordinator.
Somerville School, Vasundhara Enclave,
hosted ‘Virasat’ held in association with SPICMACAY. Flautist Ranendranath Majumdar, popularly known as Pandit Ronu Majumdar, mesmerised the students with his spellbinding performance on the bansuri. He was accompanied by Pranshu Chaturlal on the tabla and Kalpesh Sachala on the flute.
His bansuri renditions of ‘Raag Mangal Bhairav’ and ‘Vande Mataram’ left the students enthralled.
The students also learnt about Pandit Majumdar’s early years, the discipline with which he practised his craft and also some special tips on playing the bansuri. He concluded the lecture demonstration with a folk tune ‘Kajri’ that captivated the audience.
