Doctor beaten up at government hospital
NEWDELHI: A doctor and two ward boys of Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya hospital in south Delhi’s Malviya Nagar were manhandled, allegedly by a group of five men accompanying an injured patient early Wednesday.
The hospital staff and doctors suspended the OPD services for a couple of hours in protest.
The doctor, Vaseem Mansuri, 27, was injured on his forehead after one of the men hit him near his eyebrow with a blunt object. The attendants were agitated, apparently because of a delay in medical attention to their patient, said police. The attackers fled after vandalising the premises.
Ishwar Singh, deputy commissioner of police (south), said one man was arrested while efforts were on to nab the others.
“A case was registered against the attackers at the Malviya Nagar police station,” said Singh.
Mansuri said he was on night shift when around 3 am, four-five men arrived with a patient, Tahir Khan, with injuries on his right palm. Wanting a doctor immediately, the attendants started scattering medicine bottles and equipment, said a police officer.
“The men abused and assaulted the doctor and two ward boys, Prateek and Pradeep, when they asked them not to create a ruckus. By the time other hospital staff arrived, the attackers had fled,” said the officer.
