One dead, 2 injured in Yamuna eway accident
NOIDA: One person died and two others were injured after their car skid off the Yamuna Expressway near Knowledge Park early Thursday morning.
The dead has been identified as Simranjeet Singh, 28. The injured men are Shivam, 21 and Wasim, 25, all residents of Panipat in Haryana. Police said the duo received multiple injuries in their arms and head.
They were travelling to Panipat from Lucknow in their Maruti Ertiga car when the accident took place near Zero Point, at the end of the Yamuna Expressway near Knowledge Park, police said. They work for an LED light manufacturing company in Panipat, police said.
Singh was driving the car, while Wasim was seated next to him and Shivam was on the rear seat, police said.
Station house officer, Knowledge Park police station, Hansraj Bhadoriya, said, “The accident took place around 5.30am. It seems the driver took the wrong turn towards Greater Noida instead of Delhi and failed to negotiate the curve. The car must have been speeding and was flung off the expressway.”
Bhadoriya said that the car lost balance after falling off the expressway and was mangled. Passersby spotted the car with three men bleeding profusely and informed police..
Police said the occupants were rushed to the Kailash Hospital, Greater Noida, where Singh was declared brought dead.
A spokesperson of Kailash Hospital, said, “Shivam was discharged after first aid. Wasim is critical due to a head injury and is in the intensive care unit . He will undergo a surgery. ”
Police said they recovered the identity cards of the persons and informed their family.
The marks on the road suggested the driver applied brakes suddenly. Police asked Shivam about the events leading to the accident but he could not give details as he was shocked.
Police ruled out drunken driving. Singh’s body has been sent for postmortem and medical reports are awaited. He received injuries in the head and face.
