L-G reviews decongestion projects on four road stretches
NEWDELHI: Delhi lieutenant governor Anil Baijal on Tuesday reviewed progress of traffic decongestion projects on Aurbindo Marg, Mathura Road, Savitri Flyover and Dhaula Kuan. Baijal directed the agencies concerned to closely coordinate for a time-bound implementation of the pilot project.
He also directed the authorities to crack down on illegal parking along these stretches and prioritise removal of encroachment and prevention of re-encroachment.
According to a statement issued by the L-G office, Baijal was informed that to decongest Aurobindo Marg to Andheria More, stretch measures such as re-aligning of the existing car park facility and creation of bus lane at INA had been approved and the construction work would start soon.
On the Dhaula Kuan flyover to GGR flyover, Sanjay T-point stretch, the authorities said that major redevelopment by NHAI was planned to broaden NH8 and provide grade separator for signal free crossover to station road.
“Routes of seven buses 724, 588, 588A, RL-75, 894, 794 and RL-77 has been realigned to ease traffic on this stretch,” a statement said.
“L-G appreciated the progress but stated that immediate implementation of the ongoing projects and works should be undertaken in a time bound manner to ensure their timely completion. Specific timelines should be fixed for each action point,” the statement said.
Baijal also emphasised that these stretches ought to be freed from unauthorized parking for better circulation of traffic. He stressed that commercial establishments should provide proper parking for their visitors else must face action as per law.
The directions were issued in a meeting attended by public works department minister Satyendar Jain and chief secretary MM Kutty, along with senior officials from the urban development department, traffic police, chairman NDMC and commissioner of South Delhi Municipal Corporation.
