RELATIVES OF THE GIRL TOLD THE POLICE THAT SHE HAD BEEN MISSING SINCE OCTOBER 20. SHE WAS RESIDENT OF PATPARGANJ IN E DELHI

GURGAON: The body of an 18-year old woman was found in a sack in Rajiv Chowk area of Gurgaon on October 27 police said. The woman was a resident of Patparganj, in east Delhi.

The police suspect that the woman could have been killed for ‘family honour’ as nobody reported the matter to the police even though she had been missing since October 20.

Investigators said the postmortem report showed that the woman had been strangled to death. They said the woman might have been killed somewhere else and the body was dumped at Rajiv Chowk to mislead the police.

A case has been registered at Sadar police station.

Police sources said the girl was from the minority community and she was in a relationship with a man from another community, which had led to tension in her family.

A few months ago, her family had lodged a case of abduction against a man from Haldwani, UP. He is now under the scanner of Gurgaon police also.

Vijay Kumar, SHO, Sadar police station, said that during the postmortem, a paper chit was recovered from the clothes of the victim on which five mobile members were written.

The police found that one of the phone numbers belonged to a family member of the victim, said Kumar. “The family of the dead woman had come to the mortuary on Monday, and they identified the girl and her clothes. Her body was handed over to them after the postmortem,” the SHO said.

The relatives of the girl told the police that she had been missing since October 20.

The family also admitted that they had not lodged a missing person report with the police. This is one of the reasons why the police suspect that the girl’s family may be involved in the crime.

DNA samples from the victim’s body have also been collected and they would be matched with her family members. Police said that although no arrest has been made in this connection but they were working on various leads, and soon crack the case.

The family of the victim hails from Budaun in Uttar Pradesh and they have been living in Patparganj for the past couple of years.
