POLICE SUSPECT THE ROLE OF A TEA VENDOR WHOSE SHOP WAS REMOVED A FEW DAYS AGO BY THE CIVIC AGENCIES

NEWDELHI: Security officials went into a panic mode on Tuesday afternoon after the police control room received a call saying, said a bomb was planted at Delhi traffic police’s office in RK Puram Sector 4.

The unidentified call sent as many as 20 traffic police personnel into a tizzy.

A message was flashed and officers rushed to the traffic police office for a combing operation with bomb detection/disposal and dog squads.

The building was evacuated and searched for almost half an hour but no bombs or explosive device was found. The call was declared a hoax, said a police officer. Police said the call was made from a public telephone booth run by a differently abled man in RK Puram.

The telephone booth operator, Sanjeev, said he was not present when the call was made. Sanjeev claimed he had disconnected the telephone instrument from the telephone cable before leaving for lunch.

“It appears somebody connected another instrument with the telephone cable and made the hoax bomb call. We are trying to identify the hoax caller,” said Chinmoy Biswal, additional DCP (south). No case was registered till late in the evening.

The officer said CCTV footage is being analysed for clues. Police suspect the role of a tea vendor whose shop was removed a few days ago by the civic agencies for encroachment.
