JNU gets highest NAAC score
THE TEACHER’S BODY, HOWEVER, ALLEGED THE RAW SCORE HAD FALLEN SINCE THE LAST EVALUATION
NEW DELHI: The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has given Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) the highest accreditation, A++ rank, in its second cycle of review .
The university’s teacher’s body, however, alleged the raw score had fallen since the last evaluation.
The NAAC team visited the university between October 9 and 11, and assessed it based on its ‘performance, educational processes and outcomes, curriculum, teaching-learning, evaluation, faculty, research, infrastructure, learning resources, organisation, governance, financial well being and student services’.
“This milestone for JNU reflects the sheer hard work and untiring effort by all members of the university,” SC Garkoti, rector II of the institution, said in a statement.
The vice chancellor, Jagadesh Kumar, said they would continue to expand their academic and research efforts. “Our research needs to be transformed into applications to find solutions to the challenges India is facing today. JNU will focus on getting more research funding to the university by collaborating with industry. JNU has the potential to become a leading university in online education,” he said.
The JNU Teachers’ Association said the evaluation score had fallen from 3.91 during the last review in 2012 to 3.77 this time. “The score has fallen because of the destruction of the university in terms of seat cuts and other policies, and because of the negative atmosphere. The person responsible for this destruction is the V-C,” said Ayesha Kidwai, JNUTA president.
Garkoti said the “fall” in the score was deceptive, as the council had changed the system this year.
