GURGAON: A 27-year-old man, who was allegedly inebriated, jumped in front of a moving train at the Sikanderpur Metro station in Gurgaon on Thursday evening, the police said. He survived with injuries.

According to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) officials, the incident took place around 5.30pm during rush hour. Metro officials said the man, Ankit Awasthi, jumped before a train head towards New Delhi from Gurgaon.

The Metro police officials said based on eyewitness accounts, a suicide attempt seems to be unlikely.

The man is undergoing treatment at the Fortis Memorial Research Institute Hospital (FMRI) in sector 29.

“The man was pulled out of the tracks and rushed to the hospital. We will verify from CCTV footage whether it is a suicide attempt.” Razak Khan, assistant sub inspector of Metro police and the investigation officer in the case said.

“The man appeared to be heavily intoxicated and jumped in front of the moving train. There will be more clarity after we record his statement,” Razak added.

A DMRC official said the incident led to chaos at the Metro station and CRPF officials had to intervene to restore order. The official added Metro services were resumed within 10-15 minutes after the ‘man was taken out’.
