Chawrasia shoots 65 to take lead at Hong Kong Open

HONGKONG: India’s SSP Chawrasia took the first round lead by carding five-under-par 65 at the UBS Hong Kong Open. The sixtime Asian Tour winner led England’s Matthew Fitzpatric­k and compatriot Shubhankar Sharma by a shot.

MUMBAI: India’s Ankita Raina continued her impressive progress in the $125,000 L&T Mumbai Open by outclassin­g her higher ranked opponent Peangtarn Plipuech of Thailand 6-2, 6-2 in straight sets to make a maiden entry into the singles quarter-finals of a WTA Series event.

DOC PLEADS GUILTY

LANSING(USA): Former USA Gymnastics team doctor Lawrence Nassar, accused of molesting more than 100 female athletes over several decades, on Wednesday pleaded guilty to multiple counts of criminal sexual conduct. Nassar -- who worked with the country’s gymnasts at four separate Olympic Games -- could be sentenced to at least 25 years in prison.
