Children from Kathputli colony to be given school uniform, books

NEWDELHI: Children who were living in the houses of Kathputli Colony before it was demolished will be given school uniforms, books, and stationary by their schools.

The Delhi government has asked all schools to provide details of students who were displaced.the move comes after the high court directed the government to look into providing school uniforms, books, and stationary to those children.

A circular from the director- ate of education (DOE), issued on Saturday, said that the department needs the whereabout­s and rehabilita­tion status of the displaced families so that the children of these families may be provided with the items. “All the heads of DOE schools, DOE aided schools, and unaided recognized schools by DOE are directed to identify students with address of Kathputli Colony and furnish details of the students,” the circular said.

“The principals of government schools can utilize either Pupils Welfare Fund or Vidhyalaya Kalyan Samiti Fund to purchase these items from the market and provide it to the students immediatel­y,” the circular said.

The schools have also been directed to ensure that no child drops out of the school or misses classes due to lack of uniform, textbooks or writing material.
