Pankaj Advani wins IBSF snooker for 18th world title

NEWDELHI: Pankaj Advani won the 15-frame IBSF World Snooker Championsh­ip at the Al Arabi Sports Club in Doha on Monday. It was his 18th world title. Advani defeated Amir Sarkhosh of Iran 8-2 (19-71, 79-53, 98-23, 69-62, 60-05, 0-134, 75-07, 103-4, 77-13, 67-47) in the final. On November 12, Advani had won his 17th world title when he won the IBSF World Billiards Championsh­ip defeating Mike Russell of England.

BATRA NOMINATION

NEWDELHI: Internatio­nal Hockey Federation (IHF) president Narinder Batra has filed his nomination­s for the post of the president of the Indian Olympic Associatio­n (IOA). Batra has also filed nomination for the post of senior vice-president.

SATHIYAN WINS GOLD

NEWDELHI: Indian paddler G Sathiyan defeated Japan’s Kazuhiro Yoshimura 4-2 to clinch the men’s gold at the 2017 ITTF Challenge Spanish Open in Almeria, Spain. Sathiyan beat Yoshimura 11-7, 3-11, 11-6, 6-11, 13-11, 11-7.

LAKSHYA LIFTS TITLE

HYDERABAD: Shuttler Lakshya Sen beat Malaysia’s Yee Han Chong in the men’s final to defend his title at the India Internatio­nal Series. He beat Chong 21-15, 17-21, 21-17. In women’s category, M Tanishq beat Shikha Gautam 17-21, 22-20, 21-18 to win the final.

MAINI GETS AWARD

ABU DHABI: Indian racer Arjun Maini has been given the GP3 series’ best race win of the season award at the 2017 Dallara Awards ceremony here, for his impressive victory at Barcelona in May. The 19-year-old Formula 1 Haas developmen­t driver created history with his win to become the first ever Indian to win in GP3.

NAGAL MOVES TO 225TH

NEWDELHI: Sumit Nagal achieved his career-best rank of 225 following a massive 96-place jump in the ATP singles rankings ladder, courtesy his sensationa­l Bengaluru Open victory on Saturday. After the win, Nagal had pocketed 100 ranking points. Yuki Bhambri gained two places to continue to be India’s highest ranked player at number 116. In the WTA charts, Ankita Raina is the country’s highest ranked player after gaining 16 places to be at number at 277.

NEW DELHI: Asian champion Bajrang Punia and Vinod Kumar settled for silver medals at the Under-23 World Wrestling Championsh­ip in Poland after losing their respective finals as India finished with three medals at the event. Bajrang lost the 65kg final 6-17 to Russian grappler Kuular while Vinod lost 1-3 to American Richard Lewis.
