LIVERPOOL: Wayne Rooney dedicated Everton’s 4-0 victory over West Ham United to interim manager David Unsworth after scoring a superb hat-trick in front of incoming manager Sam Allardyce. Allardyce was in the stands at Goodison Park on Wednesday after Everton announced he was finalising talks to succeed Ronald Koeman as permanent manager.

Unsworth has been filling in since Koeman was sacked last month and although he has won only two of his eight games at the helm, Rooney said he had helped steady the ship. “We’ll enjoy tonight, but first of all we’ve got to give thanks to David Unsworth,” Rooney told BT Sport. “He’s stepped in at a difficult time for the football club. He’s a true Everton person. ble run of late goals continued with a superb stoppage-time winner in the 2-1 victory over Southampton. “Before, he didn’t believe. Now, he can do that, said Guardiola. “In the end, he had the personality to make the action, to put the ball there in the angle.”

CONTE APOLOGISES

LONDON : Antonio Conte apologised after he was sent to the stands for a furious touchline rant during his side’s 1-0 win over Swansea. Conte was incensed with time-wasting throughout the first half at Stamford Bridge and his frustration boiled over when referee Neil Swarbrick failed to award Chelsea a clear corner. “It’s right to apologise for what happened during the game,” he said. “In the first half I saw Swansea was wasting time. I said this a few times to the fourth official. I didn’t see anything change. I was frustrated.”
