HYDERABAD : A 20-year old postgraduate student of Hyderabad’s Osmania University committed suicide by hanging himself in his hostel on Sunday evening.

According to the Osmania University police, Eramaina Murali, a first-year M Sc (Physics) student, was missing from his room since Saturday night. He did not join his friends for breakfast and lunch. In the evening, his body was found hanging in the bathroom of Manair hostel, in which he was staying.

The students immediately alerted the campus police, which later said it had recovered a suicide note from his body. As per the police, the note said Murali was “unable to concentrate on his studies and was depressed”.

“I am not able to continue (with) my studies and I am afraid I might fail in the examinations. I don’t want to fail...and hence, I am ending my life,” it said.

A native of Daulapur village in Telangana’s Siddipet district, Murali asked his brothers to take care of their mother and did not want her to learn he had committed suicide, as per the note.

The students, however, said they suspect the suicide note was fabricated as the handwriting was not Murali’s. “He was depressed over unusual delay in the issuance of job notifications by the Telangana government, which should be held responsible,” OU students joint action committee leader and president of the Unemployed Youth Association K Manavatha Rai said.
