NATIONAL EDUCATION DAY
DAV Public School, Sreshtha Vihar, celebrated National Education Day on the birthday of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, India’s first education minister. A special morning assembly was organised and a speech on the life of Dr Azad was given. A student also presented a poem on the educationist. The students of Classes 6 and 7 participated in the events: inspirational quotes to serve our motherland and portrait and biographical sketch competition based on the first education minis- ter. The day saw active involvement and enthusiasm among the students who participated in the assembly as well as in the different competitions. Principal Premlata Garg appreciated the efforts of the students.
Maulana Azad was one of the major contributors to the Indian education system. As a young man, Azad composed poetry in Urdu language. He rose to prominence through his work as a journalist, publishing works critical of the British Raj. St George’s School, Alaknanda, organised an inter-house hymn competition for students of Classes 3 to 5.
The participation of students of all the eight houses made the environment peaceful. The students sang with zeal .The school principal congratulated the participants for the commendable performance. The first position was bagged by Gandhi House and the second by Patel House.
The hymns created an atomosphere of tranquillity. Students enjoyed singing the different hymns.
It was a welcome break from the routine of classes and homework.
Students were enthusiastic about the competition and sang the hymns with fervour. The school staff applauded the efforts of the students which were impressive.
