PATNA: A man in Bihar has been arrested for allegedly raping a seven-year-old girl who had objected to his stealing radish from her field at Machiaon village in Kaimur district Sunday.

The girl, a Class 2 student belonging to the Mahadalit community, was taken to the Bhabua district hospital in a critical condition. Police arrested the suspect, Lalu Sharma, and registered a case against him.

Police said the girl and her five-year-old friend saw Sharma – a father of three – uprooting the crops. When she objected, Sharma allegedly turned angry and dragged her to the nearby bushes where she was raped.

The child returned home bleeding, and told the family. Villagers caught hold of Sharma and handed him over to police.

Superintendent of police Harpreet Kaur said a speedy trial will be recommended for the “heinous crime”. Police will also help the family get due compensation and benefits, she added.

This is the fifth incident of a Mahadalit girl being raped in the district in the last four months.

On September 29, a 15-year- old girl was raped in the Bhagwanpur police station limits. A few days later, two minors were kidnapped and gangraped for four days by five people.

The next month, a nine-yearold was gang-raped by four people in Chainpur police station limits. A 13-year-old girl was also kidnapped and raped by two youth from her village.

GIRL RAPED, MURDERED IN TELANGANA ON HER EIGHTH BIRTHDAY

The body of a seven-year-old girl was found with bruises and nail and teeth bites on Monday, the day she was supposed to celebrate her birthday in Telangana’s Jayashankar Bhupalpally district, police said.

Officials said the body of the Class I student with her clothes partially torn was found in a haystack in her family’s agricultural fields near her Gori Kothapalli village of Regonda block at around 4pm on Monday.

Regonda Police said prima facie it appeared she was raped before being strangled to death. They registered a case of murder and sent the body to the local hospital for post-mortem examination.
